Preheat oven to 200°C/180°C fan-forced. Using a small sharp knife, cut two 4cm long strips of rind from orange. Juice orange (you’ll need 1/4 cup). Place pears, orange rind and cinnamon in a roasting pan. Combine maple syrup, wine and orange juice in a jug. Pour over pears. Toss to coat. Cover tightly with foil.

Roast for 30 minutes. Remove foil and baste pears with pan juices. Roast, uncovered, for a further 30 minutes or until pears are tender and syrup has thickened.
These pears can be served with a main meal such as roast pork or served as dessert topped with vanilla ice-cream.
